The current trend of urban gardening has heralded an attempt by numerous initiatives around the world to bring market gardening back to the city. Community gardening in the urban space aims to present an alternative to the private refuges that are proliferating on the outskirts of the city, and encourages a greater understanding of plants, their care, and growth in the city. In particular it entails the use of urban spaces as life-giving environments and the creation of spaces for social projects. The hop garden on the SCHAUSTELLE terrace is a symbolic act in solidarity with the various initiatives currently taking place in the city. The regional crop will spread over the building’s scaffold structure, lending shade to visitors, and hopefully yielding enough of a harvest for us to conduct a brewing experiment.
