JEAN-CHARLES BLAIS UND CHRISTOPH BRECH. THE DIGITAL LINE

pf_blaisThe exploration of the line, that most variable element in a drawing, is the subject of video pieces selected for the Schaustelle and created by two artists. Using modern digital media, they broaden the dimensions of drawing by incorporating time and movement. In ‘Sig (drunk)’, Jean-Charles Blais (*1956 in Nantes, Loire-Atlantique) plays with the layering of abstracted contours of a head that continually mutate. Meanwhile, Munich-based artist Christoph Brech (*1964 in Schweinfurt) combines music with his digital images. In ‘No. V/Cis Moll’ a fascinating play of lines emerges against a black background that unfolds in time to the music. Luminous dots were attached to the hands of conductor Mariss Janson and their movements digitally recorded. Their motion creates a lyrical translation of music into drawing.
